As part of ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships and contributing meaningfully
to Ghana’s infrastructure agenda, GoBitumen, a proud subsidiary of GOIL PLC, has hosted a
stakeholder engagement session with key institutions in the road sector
In attendance at the session were officials from the Ghana Highways Authority, Department
of Urban Roads, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways. The delegation from the
Department of Urban Roads included 12 members led by Chief Engineer Siisi Darko, while
the Ghana Highways Authority was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Surv. Mallam
Issah Ishak, and his Deputy in charge of Maintenance, Ing. Lawrence Lamptey. The Ministry
of Roads and Highways was also represented by a six-member team.
The engagement, which took place at the GoBitumen facility at Tema, was designed to
familiarize stakeholders with the company’s range of premium, quality-assured bitumen
products and to open a dialogue on strategic collaboration in national road development.
Briefing the delegation, the Managing Director of GoBitumen, Mr. Joseph Adongo,
underscored the company’s readiness to support road infrastructure delivery through reliable,
high-performance bituminous products.
Mr. Adongo further highlighted the heavy in-house testing and quality assurance processes
that ensure GoBitumen’s range of products meets the highest standards for diverse
construction needs across the country. The facility, with a capacity of 7,500MT offers a range
of bitumen products, including base bitumen (AC 10 and AC 20), Polymer Modified Bitumen
(PMB), and bitumen emulsions.
“We’re proudly Ghanaian-owned, and with our standardized products, we can help build
better and long-lasting roads for our nation. GOIL’s formulation uses the Styrene-Butadiene-
Styrene (SBS) Polymer in producing Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), resulting in a stable
product with excellent performance. PMB significantly enhances road durability, leading to
reduced maintenance costs,” Mr. Adongo stated.
Following a guided tour of the facility, an open forum was held where ideas were shared on
how best to leverage on partnerships between GOIL PLC and the road sector agencies. Surv.
Mallam Issah expressed his excitement and pride in GoBitumen’s prospects and emphasized
the need for collaboration in training and capacity building for contractors to ensure the
effective use of PMB, emulsions, and asphalt products. He also underscored the importance
of working with GOIL PLC on quality control testing and regulatory oversight to eliminate
substandard or untested products from the Ghanaian market and promote the use of GOIL’s
tested and certified bitumen.
The session also saw participation from the dedicated team at the Bitumen facility, along with
some heads of departments of GOIL. The meeting concluded with a shared hope for a future of
strengthened collaboration toward the enhancement of Ghana’s road network.
